The India Commodity Year Book 2019 edition marks the 10th year of this unique publication. The India Commodity Year Book is published by the National Collateral Management Services Ltd. (NCML) and has emerged as the country’s leading publication in the commodity space. Its annual publication is awaited with a lot of interest.

NCML, promoted by the Prem Watsa led Fairfax India, is the country’s leading post –harvest agri business Company, with focus on warehousing, supply chain and commodity finance. NCML’s other services include collateral management, testing, weather intelligence and consultancy. As in previous years the Book has published learned Papers on the most relevant and contemporary issues in the commodity space. The first Chapter captures a critical appraisal of the most relevant themes that have emerged in the year and is covered in the book. This includes developments in what has been a volatile commodity space. The year has also seen several policy interventions in agriculture trade and in the commodity markets which the book has tried to cover. There are five other areas that have become especially relevant and are comprehensively covered – agri-logistics, credit, technology, insurance and the fastgrowing fruits & vegetables sector

This annual publication has become the country’s benchmark volume in the commodity space. The contributors include industry leaders, commodity analysts, domain experts and policy makers. Sanjay Kaul, a 1979 batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, took voluntary retirement from the IAS and joined NCML as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer in June 2008. Before joining NCML, Sanjay Kaul had a long tenure in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India as Joint Secretary, Policy & FCI (2001-2007).

His previous assignments have included Deputy Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office (1990–1992) and at the State Government as Secretary, Education, Chairman Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Commissioner Health and Family Welfare, Additional Director, Industries, and District Magistrate at Bangalore and Tumkur.

He has written extensively in the areas of food and nutrition, education, health, and poverty related issues. He was instrumental in setting up the NCDEX Institute of Commodity Markets and Research (NICR) where he was the first Director and CEO during 2007-08. He is a Post Graduate in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. An economist by training, he began his career as a lecturer in Economics at the University of Delhi. His areas of interest include commodity markets, agricultural policy, infrastructure, urban planning, health and education.
